“You are always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past.” ~ Richard Bach
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” ~ Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Would you agree with me if I said the world is an ever-evolving place? Certainly you have noticed the changes in our social climate over, say, the last 10 to 15 years. For instance, why are so many people disgusted by the word moist? In seems like all of the sudden using the word “moist” is worse than using four-letter words. Who decided “moist” was a bad word? How many of you keep cringing every time you read “moist”?
My point is, was it YOUR idea that “moist” is disgusting or was that annoyance passed on to you somehow…through an associate, through some meme you saw on social media, etc. We are “guided” to certain viewpoints and belief systems in various ways; some with good intentions, others not-so-much. We generally, even unconsciously, conform.
Another example. You and some friends are at a professional sporting event, like a major league baseball game. Your home team has the bases loaded and the best hitter is at the plate. The fans are pumped; the energy palpable. Across the stadium you see the “wave” start going. As it makes its way around to your section…it’s an automatic, you do the wave as well? Why is that? Social conformity. Whether you realize it or not, you go along with the crowd ‘just because’.
Things like this (in and of themselves) are no big deal, but we unconsciously conform to so much junk…we are being programmed by that ever-evolving world around us, and we think “that’s just the way it is.” NO, it really isn’t…at least, it doesn’t have to be. Each of us as individuals can choose a different path, a more beneficial path…for ourselves and by extension others.
Don’t be bound by conformity; you are Free to Change.
