A lot of people that know me call me Superman...it's kind of a nickname, really. Let me tell you why...
Probably first and foremost is the fact that I can almost always be found wearing a Superman t-shirt...usually my denim Superman cap as well. Of course, there's always my Superman wallet, too, that my friend (Joel) got me.
That's all physical in nature, I suppose. Superman is, yes, a comic book superhero. I can honestly say that I do not follow comic books nor the storylines they offer about the life and times of Clark Kent (aka Superman).
Even so, there is a specific reason I wear Superman shirts, etc. It's the symbol.
In the movie Man of Steel, Lois Lane remarks about the "S" on Superman's "costume". Superman says something to this effect, "on my planet it's not an 'S', it is the symbol of the house of El; and it means hope."
I wear the superman stuff because it is a symbol of hope. As we look at the chaos around us, I believe there is still hope. That within each of us lies the potential to do good...for ourselves and each other...for the good of all mankind.
People used to ask me why I wear Superman stuff all the time...the answer is the same: there is always HOPE.
P. S. In case you're wondering..."Bunny Boy" (the stuffed animal in my lap in the picture at right) is my alter-ego/mini-me. I take him pretty-much wherever I go (business trips, vacations, special places, hospital stays, etc). I have yet to find him a good Superman t-shirt, so he often wears onesies (preemie size). In this picture, however, he is wearing an University of Arizona (Wildcats) t-shirt my buddy, Joel, got him.
